Alexander Grebenkin, deputy secretary of the Russian Security Council, said that Afghanistan has seen an unprecedented drop in poppy cultivation following a government decree banning the production and cultivation of narcotics.

He noted that the implementation of this decree has significantly reduced the risks of drug trafficking into Russia.

Previously, many countries and international organizations praised Afghanistan’s ban on drug cultivation and trafficking as a groundbreaking development.

It is worth noting that, at the beginning of 2026, a delegation from the United Nations visited Afghanistan and praised the efforts undertaken to combat narcotics.

Meanwhile, reports note that Pakistan has now emerged as a significant global hub for the cultivation and trafficking of narcotics.
