International media outlets have reported that the governments of Australia and the United Kingdom have formally rejected a request from U.S. President Donald Trump to join an operation aimed at securing the Strait of Hormuz.
The request was reportedly made after talks between Iran and the United States in Islamabad failed, following which Trump issued a warning regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, the Australian government said it would not support or participate in any U.S-led operation related to controlling or closing the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that it would not take part in such actions.
A spokesperson for the British government also rejected the request, stating that the United Kingdom supports the free and open passage of the Strait of Hormuz.
Following rising tensions with Iran, Trump has reportedly been pressing European allies almost daily to take part in efforts related to the Strait of Hormuz, but none have agreed so far.
