U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has contrasted the substantial costs of recent U.S. wars with continued underinvestment in key public sectors, including education, healthcare, and housing.

In a post on his X account, Sanders noted the financial burden of U.S. military engagements, noting that the Iraq war cost nearly $2.1 trillion, the Afghanistan war about $2.3 trillion, and estimating that a potential conflict with Iran could reach around $1 trillion.

“How is it that funds are always available for war, yet never for housing, education, and other needs of the working class?” he wrote. “We must change our national priorities.”
