Al Jazeera reported that the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, has approved a law establishing a special military court to try Palestinians involved in the October 7, 2023 attacks and permitting the death penalty for them.

The move was confirmed by Israeli media, which stated that the aim is to create a separate and harsher judicial process for individuals whom Israel considers directly or indirectly responsible for the attacks.

The law comes at a time when the death penalty is considered extremely rare in Israel, but the new decision indicates that Israel’s judicial and political approach regarding those events has become unprecedentedly severe.
