Hizam al-Asad, a member of Yemen’s Houthi Political Council, has accused the United States of advancing Saudi Arabia’s interests, warning that ordinary Americans will ultimately bear the cost of Washington’s policies in the region.
In a message addressed to US taxpayers, al-Asad said that if the Bab el-Mandeb Strait were to be closed, just as it happened with the Strait of Hormuz, and oil exports from Saudi Arabia’s Yanbu and Ras Tanura ports were halted, global oil prices would rise dramatically.
“What do you think the price of a barrel of oil would be?” he asked.
Al-Asad claimed that the US government is pursuing the Saudi regime’s “dirty objectives” by fueling wars and instability across the region, but said it is the American people who will ultimately pay the highest price.
He added that US citizens would also face the consequences of their government’s “aggressive policies,” just as people elsewhere are experiencing today.
