CNN reported that the war between U.S. President Donald Trump and Iran, which according to the U.S. president was supposed to last only a few weeks, has now extended to six months. Its consequences are also affecting global security beyond the Middle East and the United States’ position on the international stage.
According to CNN, the war’s initial objectives have not been achieved either. Trump’s demands from Iran have shifted from complete surrender, regime change, and abandoning its nuclear program to reopening the Strait of Hormuz and limiting Iran’s nuclear program.
The report adds that the war’s unforeseen consequences could provide Washington’s rivals with opportunities to increase their influence and could affect the United States’ position globally.
