The Disaster Preparedness Authority has warned that temperatures in parts of Afghanistan are expected to rise above normal from August 28 to September 2. A heat wave could persist for three or more consecutive days in northern and southeastern provinces.
According to the authority’s weekly forecast, below-normal rainfall is expected countrywide, while average surface temperatures are likely to remain above normal. Maximum temperatures in some areas could reach 30°C to 40°C.
The authority said most parts of the country received near-normal seasonal rainfall over the past 30 days, and that abnormal drought conditions have generally subsided.
