The Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has resigned after months of disagreements and tensions with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
According to the report, the dispute between Driscoll and Hegseth centered on the Army’s future direction, the removal of senior military officials, and plans to modernize the service.
Driscoll was confirmed as Army secretary in February 2025. During his tenure, he worked to implement the Trump administration’s military policies and strengthen the Army’s readiness. The White House also praised measures taken during his tenure.
Driscoll’s resignation comes as the Trump administration continues to make changes among senior military officials. The departure also comes amid reported disagreements within the Defense Department over the structure of the military leadership and the Army’s future policies.
