According to a report by Tasnim News Agency, Japan’s foreign exchange reserves fell by $80 billion in August, declining from $1.287 trillion to $1.207 trillion.
According to data from Japan’s Ministry of Finance, this represents a 6.18% decrease in foreign exchange reserves in a single month, the sharpest decline since 2000.
According to the report, the main reason for the decline in reserves was Japan’s intervention in the foreign exchange market to strengthen the yen. Japan has so far spent ¥27.1 trillion to support the yen.
