Foreign Ministry spokesperson Abdul Qahar Balkhi has strongly rejected the International Criminal Court’s decision to issue arrest warrants for the Afghan government’s leadership and three other officials, calling the move a clear violation of Afghanistan’s national sovereignty and independence, as well as the principle of noninterference in the internal affairs of states.
Balkhi said in a post on X that the ICC’s continued selective and political conduct, along with its use of international judicial mechanisms for political purposes, has raised serious questions about its impartiality and credibility.
He stressed that the Afghan government has no cooperation or engagement with the ICC and categorically rejects any judicial jurisdiction it claims over Afghanistan.
According to Balkhi, Afghanistan is not a member of the ICC, and the court’s previous legal relationship with the former Afghan administration, which was established under foreign occupation, has no legal validity for the present independent Afghanistan.
