Former US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad, responding to recent remarks by Pakistani military spokesperson Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has said that Afghanistan existed as a state several centuries before the establishment of Pakistan.
In a recent interview, the Pakistani military spokesperson claimed that “Afghanistan is not a state but is governed by a non-state group.” Khalilzad described this claim as incorrect under international law and urged Pakistani officials to change their “threatening and failed” policy towards Afghanistan.
He stressed that Afghanistan and Pakistan need each other and should make efforts to improve their relations.
