According to information obtained by Voice of Hindukosh, a low-ranking delegation from the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) recently met with a senior delegation of the Resistance Council. Representing the USIP were Kimberly and Afghan-American Sayed Azizullah Sadat Hashimi, neither of whom hold significant leadership positions within the organization.
According to the information received by Voice of Hindukosh, the Resistance Council was represented by Abdul Rashid Dostum, Mohammad Mohaqiq, and Almas Zahid. The council initially viewed the meeting as a significant step forward. However, given that the USIP only sent a low-level delegation.
Analysts see the meeting as imbalanced and dismissive, interpreting it as an act of mockery and disrespect toward the Resistance Council.
The United States Institute of Peace is a non-governmental organization primarily focused on social cohesion and development, with minimal involvement in conflict resolution or peace negotiations. It has no influence over U.S. foreign policy and operates mainly through limited, project-based activities, concentrating on shaping narratives rather than engaging in high-level diplomacy.
The Resistance Council, a coalition of former Afghan politicians, has spent nearly three years seeking support from various countries, organizations, smugglers, arms dealers, and proxy donors to reignite conflict in Afghanistan. Despite these efforts, the group has failed to secure meaningful backing.
