Deputy Prime Minister’s Office for Economic Affairs says Afghanistan’s carpet industry remains one of the country’s leading manufacturing and export sectors, providing direct and indirect employment to nearly a million Afghan citizens.

The office noted the Afghan government has prioritized the development of traditional handicrafts, particularly the carpet industry, and has introduced a range of measures to support production and strengthen the sector.

According to the office, nearly 760,000 square meters of Afghan carpets, worth approximately $14 million, have been exported during the current year to markets in Europe, the Arab world, Africa, as well as Türkiye, the United States, Canada, Australia, and Russia.

It added that specialized exhibitions have been held both across Afghanistan and in several foreign countries to promote Afghan carpets and expand their presence in international markets.

The office also said Afghan carpets are now exported under Afghanistan’s own name and brand. Recognized for their high quality, distinctive designs, and traditional craftsmanship, they continue to earn growing recognition in global markets.
