Arab leaders approved Egypt’s plan for the reconstruction of Gaza during an emergency meeting held in Cairo on Tuesday.

According to reports, the plan consists of three phases. The first phase will last six months and focus on clearing rubble, constructing temporary housing, and repairing partially damaged homes. The second phase, spanning two years, will continue these efforts. The third and final phase, expected to take two and a half years, includes building permanent housing for all Gaza residents, developing the first phase of an industrial zone, constructing commercial ports, establishing an airport, and providing other public services. The total estimated cost of the reconstruction plan is $53 billion.

It remains unclear which countries will contribute financially or to what extent. However, a new fund will be established to manage donations from contributing countries and financial institutions.

Reports indicate that this initiative serves as an alternative to U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal, which called for seizing Gaza, rebuilding it, and resettling its residents in neighboring countries.
