Da Afghanistan Bank has announced that it has collected and destroyed nearly 15 billion old Afghani banknotes over the past four years.

The bank’s spokesperson, Hasibullah Noori, stated that alongside the collection of old currency, efforts are underway to expand digital banking in order to reduce reliance on physical cash.

Mr. Noori added: “To reduce the volume of cash in circulation, Da Afghanistan Bank is working to promote electronic banking throughout the country.”
