International media have reported that U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks calling for Syrian intervention in Lebanon have drawn a negative response from Damascus.

Trump’s comments, in which he stressed the need for Syria to play a role in Lebanon, came amid increased diplomatic and security activity along the Syria-Lebanon border in recent weeks.

In response, Syrian officials rejected the remarks, with the Syrian government denying any plans to intervene in Lebanon.

Damascus reaffirmed its commitment to respecting Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing that it has no intention of interfering in Lebanon’s internal affairs.
