The Economic Deputy Office of the Prime Minister has announced in a statement that Afghanistan currently produces 60% of the flour it needs within the country.
According to the statement, there are currently 200 active flour production factories in the country, providing employment for around 2,500 citizens.
It is stated that Afghanistan requires approximately 6 million tons of flour annually. A portion of this is produced by these factories, while the rest is produced by local mills.
The statement further adds that to strengthen the flour sector, the Afghan government has reduced tariffs on wheat imports, imposed a ban on wheat smuggling, and annually purchases surplus wheat from local farmers.
