Finland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it will close its embassy in Islamabad in 2026, citing a restructuring of its diplomatic network and the shifting political situation in Pakistan.

Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen stated that with the global security and political landscape shifting rapidly, Finland is strengthening its international diplomatic network to better address future challenges.

The ministry added that, under its new strategy, Finland recently opened a consulate in Houston, United States, and intends to launch commercial offices in several other locations during 2026.

Finland’s Foreign Ministry stated that the decision to close the Islamabad embassy reflects both shifts in Pakistan’s political landscape and the limited economic and trade relations between the two countries.
