Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu in Moscow to discuss bilateral relations, regional security, the fight against drug trafficking, and the expansion of security cooperation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Muttaqi highlighted the positive progress in political relations between Afghanistan and Russia and thanked the Russian leadership for recognizing the Afghan government. He called for stronger security cooperation and regular consultations and stressed the need to expand economic and trade ties between the two countries.
Shoigu said relations between Afghanistan and Russia were expanding across various areas and described Afghanistan’s efforts to maintain security and prevent drug trafficking as positive. He stressed that the two countries would continue political consultations and practical cooperation.
