The Tasnim News Agency reported that Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has criticised Canada’s support for US economic measures against Iran, following a joint statement by the Canadian foreign affairs and finance ministers.
In a post on X, Baghaei said Canada claims to support peace, security, freedom of navigation and international law, while at the same time supporting US military actions and Washington’s illegal and interventionist measures in the region.
He said that if Canada’s main concern is freedom of navigation, it should call for an end to the war and for the factors driving the escalation to be addressed, rather than supporting US actions.
Baghaei described Canada’s position as “strategic confusion and surrender to force,” warning that such a policy could make Canada more vulnerable to US pressure and demands for concessions.
