Authorities in Malaysia’s Terengganu state have announced that Muslim men who skip Friday prayer without a valid excuse could face up to two years in prison and a fine of around $710.

According to Malaysian media quoting local officials, this punishment will be enforced if a person continues to neglect this religious obligation despite reminders and notices.

It has also been reported that signs emphasizing the importance of Friday prayer have been installed in mosque courtyards to encourage greater participation.

The Terengganu Islamic Affairs Department stated that this step has been taken to preserve Islamic values and show respect for religious practices.
