The Head of the National Environmental Protection Authority, Mawlawi Matiul Haq Khalis, emphasized during the National Climate Change Conference that climate change is a global phenomenon requiring collaborative action to combat its effects.

He highlighted that climate change is a threat to the lives of every human being worldwide.

According to Mr. Khalis, Afghanistan is currently a member of 16 international environmental conventions and is committed to its obligations. However, he pointed out that the international community treats Afghanistan with bias, even though the Paris Agreement mandates global cooperation to reduce the negative effects of climate change on vulnerable countries.

Mr. Khalis called on the international community to refrain from politicizing environmental issues and to fulfill their commitments.

The Head of the National Environmental Protection Authority reiterated that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is dedicated to combating climate change with the available resources.

However, Mr. Khalis stressed that since climate change is a global issue, it needs collective international measures and It is the responsibility of the global community to provide technical and financial support to countries affected by climate change.
