According to newly obtained information by Voice of Hindukush, Mohammad Mohaqiq, a key figure of the foreign-based opposition group, secretly traveled to Pakistan nearly two weeks ago. During his visit, he met with several key Pakistani officials and intelligence figures, including Asim Munir, the head of Pakistan’s intelligence agency (ISI).

Sources indicate that during these discussions, Pakistani officials offered Mohaqiq full support for activities against Afghanistan, on the condition that he and the so-called Resistance Council operate in line with objectives specified by Pakistan.

Among ISI’s key promises in this meeting were facilitating the establishment of an office in Pakistan, granting visas and residency permits for Mohaqiq’s party members and associates, and providing full political and military backing for any actions against Afghanistan’s interim government.

Additionally, ISI requested Mohaqiq to use his influence in Iran to assist in gathering intelligence aligned with its interests. Reports suggest that Mohaqiq has recently grown closer to Pakistan and now leans more toward it rather than Iran.

This covert and classified visit took place without the knowledge of some key figures within the Resistance Council. The details of the trip have not yet been shared with the council as a whole but have been disclosed to a limited inner circle, where consultations are ongoing. However, Voice of Hindukush has obtained precise information regarding the visit and key details provided above.

Analysts argue that foreign-based opponents of Afghanistan’s interim government serve as convenient and low-cost assets for Western and regional intelligence agencies, which can easily exploit them for their strategic objectives, including espionage operations.

It is also noteworthy that some time ago, Western intelligence agencies approached certain key Afghan opposition figures in Turkey, seeking their cooperation in gathering intelligence on Iran and the wider region.
