According to the country’s state news agency, Senior military officials from North Korea and Russia met in Pyongyang early last week to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation.

The agency noted that the meeting took place on November 5 in Pyongyang and was attended by Pak Yong Il, deputy director of the North Korean military’s General Political Bureau, and Russian Deputy Defense Minister Viktor Goremikin.

Both sides stressed the expansion of deep bilateral relations under the leadership of Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin, though no concrete agreements were disclosed.

Russian official Goremikin also held a separate meeting on November 6 with North Korea’s Defense Minister, No Kwang Chol.

South Korea’s intelligence service has indicated that North Korea could deploy more troops to Russia.

Since last year, Pyongyang has reportedly sent about 15,000 troops and military equipment, mainly artillery and missiles to back Russia in its war against Ukraine.

It’s worth noting that Kim Jong Un has reportedly agreed to deploy thousands of additional troops and deminers to Russia’s Kursk region.
