Mawlawi Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for Afghanistan’s interim government, announced the official inauguration of the Pashdan Water and Power Dam in Herat province. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Acting Minister of Water and Energy Mullah Abdul Latif Mansour, and other senior officials.
Located in Karukh district, the dam was constructed at a cost of $117 million and is capable of irrigating 13,000 hectares of agricultural land while generating nearly two megawatts of electricity. The project was fully financed through the country budget.
The dam had previously been inaugurated prematurely by the former president of the fallen republic, at a time when much of the core construction work remained incomplete. The interim government resumed and completed the project after taking office, bringing it into full operation.
