According to a report by Iran’s ISNA news agency, protests in Istanbul over the arrest of the city’s mayor, Ekrem İmamoğlu, have intensified, with a significant number of students joining the demonstrations on the sixth consecutive night.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s Ministry of Interior announced that police have detained more than 1,100 people across the country since the protests began, including nine journalists covering the demonstrations.

Political analysts warn that the ongoing protests pose a serious threat to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and are on the brink of becoming a major political crisis.

İmamoğlu, the mayor of Istanbul and Erdoğan’s main political rival, was arrested last week on corruption charges.
