Reuters reported that Abdul Qader Hisriya, head of Syria’s Central Bank, announced plans to issue new banknotes and remove two zeros from their denominations to strengthen their value.
Speaking to Reuters, Hisriya expressed hope that the move would boost the Syrian currency and simplify financial transactions.
He noted that the initiative forms part of broader financial reforms, though no official implementation date has been announced.
The report added that Syria has signed an agreement with a Russian state-owned company to print the new banknotes.
