European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced that the EU will allocate $722 million to Damascus for the reconstruction of Syria.
She made these remarks during her visit to Damascus on Friday, stating that Syria was severely devastated during the rule of Bashar al-Assad and is currently in need of rebuilding.
The Commission President added that the EU also aims to begin high-level negotiations to open a new chapter of cooperation with Syria.
It is worth noting that the European Union lifted the economic sanctions imposed on Syria following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime last year and resumed aid to Damascus in various sectors.
