According to a Reuters report, newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump has directed the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security to prepare space at Guantanamo Bay for 30,000 undocumented and criminal migrants.
The report notes that the U.S. military base in Cuba has previously housed a detention center for migrants. However, Trump’s border policy advisor has stated that the facility will now be expanded.
In his directive to U.S. security agencies, Trump reportedly ordered: “Send the worst criminal migrants, those who pose a threat to the U.S., to Guantanamo.” Following Trump’s inauguration, a nationwide crackdown on undocumented immigrants has already begun across the United States.
