Reports indicate that Turkey’s Ministry of Defense has deployed its warships for the first time to the Syrian port of Latakia, under the leadership of Naval Forces Commander Ercüment Tatlı.
Following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, Turkey has played the role of a close partner to Damascus in rebuilding the Syrian military. However, the growing ties between Ankara and Damascus have raised serious concerns in Israel.
Israel’s Minister of Energy has warned that if Turkey establishes military bases in Syria, Israel will take similar measures.
Last year, Israeli warplanes also targeted airfields in Syria that were suspected of being used by Turkish forces as military bases.
