Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has arrived in Islamabad for a two-day official visit, invited by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He was warmly welcomed at the Nur Khan Airbase by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Sharif.

Accompanied by a high-level delegation, President Erdogan is set to co-chair the seventh session of the Pakistan-Turkey High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) with Prime Minister Sharif. The council aims to strengthen bilateral relations and is expected to result in the signing of several key agreements.

The HLSCC consists of six Joint Working Groups (JWGs) in the areas of energy, trade, banking and finance, education, communications and railways, and culture and tourism.

During his visit, President Erdogan will also hold bilateral meetings with President Zardari and Prime Minister Sharif.

To date, six sessions of the Strategic Cooperation Council between the two nations have been held, with the latest session taking place in Islamabad on February 13-14, 2020.
