According to an ABC News report, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated during a NATO foreign ministers’ meeting in Helsingborg, Sweden, that he hopes to secure greater participation and involvement from NATO member states in maintaining the opening and security of the Strait of Hormuz.
Sources said Rubio expressed that President Donald Trump was disappointed with NATO’s stance in response to the U.S. strikes against Iran, and that he has left further discussions on the matter to the leaders of NATO member countries.
Despite these concerns, the U.S. Secretary of State expressed hope for finding new areas and avenues of cooperation among NATO member states and their allies.
