Following U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend foreign aid transfers, Amu Television has lost its $100,000 monthly budget, previously provided by the U.S. State Department as part of so-called assistance for the Afghan people.
Similarly, Afghanistan International has also experienced a halt in financial support, which was allocated under the banner of humanitarian aid. The funding cut has placed the outlet in severe financial distress.
Trump’s suspension has impacted all media outlets and civil society groups that were financially supported by the U.S. after the fall of Afghanistan’s previous government. Many of these organizations have reportedly received emails notifying them of the funding freeze.
The suspensions also extend to human rights organizations and civil society groups accused of engaging in anti-Afghanistan propaganda and destabilization efforts.
