The United Nations Security Council has passed a resolution removing sanctions imposed on the Syrian President and the Minister of Interior.

According to a Reuters report, the resolution was introduced to the Security Council by the United States and was approved with 14 votes in favor.

Syria’s Foreign Minister stated that this decision is an important step toward easing Syria’s political situation and strengthening dialogue with the international community.

This comes as Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara is scheduled to visit the United States next week and meet with his American counterpart, Donald Trump.
