The World Bank, in its latest report, stated that Syria will need at least $216 billion for reconstruction.
According to reports, the 13-year civil war in Syria has severely damaged infrastructure, the economy, transportation routes, and telecommunications services across various regions of the country.
It has also been noted that the war has significantly impacted Syria’s health, education, electricity, water resources, and transportation sectors.
Syria’s civil war began in 2011 with a popular uprising against the authoritarian regime of Bashar al-Assad. Russia later intervened in support of the Syrian regime, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands of Syrians, widespread destruction of cities, and the displacement of millions.
With the apparent end of the prolonged conflict—mainly after the fall of opposition forces—hopes have emerged for the country’s reconstruction.
