International media have reported that 18 people have died in a boat sinking incident near a southern Greek island.

It is said that two people were rescued from the water and transferred to the island of Crete.

Greek authorities have not provided any information about the identities of the deceased, but Afghan, Syrian, Iraqi, and South Asian nationals often use Greek waters for illegal migration attempts.
