The Supreme Court of the interim government announced through two separate statements that on Friday, the Islamic legal punishment of Qisas (Retributive justice) was implemented against three individuals convicted of murder—two in Badghis province and one in Nimroz province.

According to the information released, the first individual was Sulaiman, son of Mohammad Rasool, a resident of Tagab Alam district in Badghis; the second was Haidar, son of Majnoon, a resident of Dara Boom district in Badghis; and the third was Abdul Qadir, son of Abdul Rahman, a resident of Zaranj city in Nimroz. The punishment was carried out for all three on the same day.

The Supreme Court stated that the cases were thoroughly and repeatedly reviewed by the three judicial tiers under the interim government—primary, appellate, and supreme courts. Upon completion of these proceedings, Qisas rulings were issued and subsequently submitted to the leadership of the interim government for approval.

According to the Court, as a final precaution, the leadership also conducted a comprehensive review of the cases. The families of the victims were offered opportunities for forgiveness and reconciliation; however, after they declined, the enforcement of the Islamic legal punishment was ordered.

It is worth noting that since the re-establishment of the interim government, this marks one of several instances in which Qisas has been implemented against convicted murderers by judicial authorities.
