Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry released a statement that India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, and Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, recently held a telephone conversation to discuss strengthening bilateral relations. The dialogue focused on enhancing diplomatic engagement, expanding trade, and facilitating humanitarian assistance between the two nations.

Source further states that Acting Minister Muttaqi emphasized India’s significance as a key regional partner and highlighted the historical ties between the two countries. He advocated for a balanced foreign policy aimed at fostering positive relations with all nations.

Additionally, he requested India’s support in easing visa procedures for Afghan businessmen, patients, and students, and called for the release and repatriation of Afghan prisoners detained in India.

In response, the Minister of External Affairs of India, Jaishankar, reaffirmed India’s commitment to continue its cooperation with Afghanistan, particularly in political and economic spheres.

Jaishankar assured that India would work towards facilitating visa processes and addressing the concerns related to Afghan detainees. Both ministers also agreed on the importance of developing the Chabahar Port in Iran to bolster trade and connectivity between the two countries.
