The International Taste Institute revealed the results of its 2026 evaluations, once again awarding Herat saffron the title of “Best Flavor” for the tenth time.

In recent years, saffron cultivation in Afghanistan has become a key alternative to poppy farming, providing livelihoods for thousands of families, especially in Herat, through growing, processing, and exporting the spice.

Earlier, the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment reported that more than 22 tons of saffron, worth nearly $30.04 million, were exported from the province to international markets in the first six months of the current year alone.
