The Retreat of Green Trend; Marginalized Discussions and Hopes for Change

The so-called “Green” movement, led by Amrullah Saleh, a failed political figure of the republic, has shown clear signs of retreat and confusion in its latest statement. Amrullah Saleh, who, after fleeing the country, had focused his activities on media propaganda against the Afghan government, has now been driven to a defensive and cautious position, contrary to his previous claims.

In recent days, an announcement was issued by the official pages of the Green Trend, informing colleagues and supporters of the movement that “due to technical issues, they should not use some of the previous email addresses and WhatsApp groups until further notice” and should refer to new addresses for communication. These sudden changes in communication style, rather than appearing technical, reflect the pressure, limitations, and reduced operational capacity of this movement.

In the continuation of this announcement, Amrullah Saleh has asked his supporters to shift their activities from “marginal and unimportant issues” toward the “basic and fundamental goals of the enemy,” stating:
Please target the enemy’s leadership structure, foundations, and core objectives; do not engage in peripheral issues. This solves no problems and causes no change.

Although these words appear to have a revisionist tone, they are actually an implicit admission of the failures of the multi-year Green Trend; a movement that Saleh described as a “vocal and powerful intelligence unit,” but which has been practically limited to producing and disseminating fake documents, media fabrications, and attributing fabricated documents and correspondence to the government of Afghanistan over the past four years; activities that had no political impact and were unable to bring about any change, even in their own false equations.

However, if Saleh’s retreat and the change in his and his inner circle’s fighting policy are examined accurately and deeply, it becomes clear that this shift in direction is primarily due to the cessation of external support and the Western and Eastern abandonment of this figure. Saleh’s network has reached an impasse due to a lack of cooperation within the country on the one hand and a failure to influence the intended goals with forged documents on the other. His current emphasis on avoiding peripheral conflicts is more a sign of the helplessness of a current that has remained incapable of even managing its internal disputes and tensions rather than a new strategy.

What is observed today from the Green Trend and its leadership is not the beginning of a real transformation but a stage of retreat and lowering expectations. Changing addresses, adjusting literature, and recommending a focus on “basic goals” all reflect the reality that this movement has lost its power to influence, organizational cohesion, and capacity for change. Once touted as a dangerous intelligence network, the Green Trend is now mired in controversy, internal disputes, and fading hopes for survival in cyberspace – hopes that show no sign of real change.
