Security sources told Voice of Hindukush that the body of Afghanistan’s first astronaut and pilot, Abdul Ahad Momand, arrived at Kabul International Airport today, Monday, July 6 from Munich, Germany.
A number of Afghan government officials, members of the late Abdul Ahad Momand’s family, relatives, and Kabul residents gathered at the airport to receive his body.
The late Momand’s body was returned to Kabul through the coordinated efforts of Afghanistan’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs, National Defense, and Transport and Civil Aviation.
Abdul Ahad Momand was Afghanistan’s first astronaut and pilot to travel into space, completing his historic mission in 1988. He is remembered as one of the country’s most distinguished figures in the history of science and aviation.
