Abdul Ghafor Lewal; A Cultural’s Seller in the Guise of a Nationalist

Abdul Ghafor Lewal, who was known as a minister, ambassador, and nationalist writer and poet during the fallen republic, brought his entire political and cultural life under serious question by signing a work contract with Afghanistan International, a media outlet opposed to national interests.

He, who was known as a nationalist and gathered young people under the banner of nationalism, has today signed a contract with a media outlet that promotes an agenda opposed to ethnic prejudice, spreading discord, and national issues. When a media outlet is chosen that is based on foreign interests and agendas, it actually reveals the gap between the nationalist slogan and recent decisions, and instead of presenting national values, it forms a significant portion that is against national interests.

Senior officials like Leval, who are under relative economic pressure outside the country after the fall of the republic, have prioritized high dollar salaries over national values. Leval is trying to re-emerge in public life thru Afghanistan International and continue to promote his former republican and political ideas under a cultural cover.

Afghanistan International systematically focuses on ethnic divisions and linguistic discord in the production of news content, promoting division instead of national unity. Their publications are designed to spread distrust and despair in society in order to psychologically oppress the people and create distance and sow discord between the Afghan government and the people.

Abdul Ghafoor Lewal formed a political party called “Wadan Afghanistan” during the Republic’s rule and openly promoted the slogan of a progressive, developed, and independent Afghanistan. However, secretly, he was a promoter of secular ideology and sought to unite anti-religious elements. His current contract also openly contradicts nationalism, as his alliance with anti-national media indicates that Lewal is only concerned with his personal interests and that his nationalist slogan was merely a ploy to deceive young people and promote himself.

Foreign-loving figures hidden under the guise of nationalism are now being exposed to the public because they are joining a working environment with someone whose foundation and practice are based on anti-Afghan propaganda and whose publications are against national interests from A to Z. The mentioned media outlet also has an office in a place (Islamabad) that is under the influence of the Pakistani military regime and works in its favor. Leval and his ilk, who were ostensibly Islamabad’s primary enemies in the past few decades, have today abandoned that false claim and sacrificed their dollar salaries.

Ghafoor’s enthusiastic working relationship with International raises many questions; is it possible to provide the means for the reconstruction/repair of an address that was created to destroy the Afghan nation? Did Lewal trade on national interests? How confident is Lewal that this address will not be used him against national interests? Will Afghanistan International funders be willing to leave the service of Afghan culture?

To promote themselves, the remnants of foreign occupation have always poisoned the honey for the people and concealed their mistakes; working with Afghanistan International is working against Afghan culture, history, and heritage, not celebrating national culture, history, and heritage. The enthusiastic decisions showed how some figures calling themselves nationalists would stoop to any deal for dollar salaries, even if it conflicted with all the country’s values.
