The Office of the Spokesperson of the Afghan government issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the assassination of Sheikh Muhammad Idris, a teacher at the Darul Uloom Haqqania seminary in Akora Khattak, Peshawar.

The statement strongly condemned the attack and said such incidents are the act of enemies of Islam and religious scholars.

It said Maulana Muhammad Idris was a respected religious scholar, a capable teacher, and a mentor to thousands of students. His killing is a major and irreparable loss for his family, his students, and the wider academic community and Islamic world.

The Afghan government prayed for the deceased to be granted the highest ranks in Paradise and expressed its condolences and solidarity with his family, relatives, and students.
