The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has announced that Turkmenistan will purchase 150,000 tons of rebar produced in Afghanistan during 2025. This development underscores Afghanistan’s growing self-sufficiency in steel production and its ability to export to neighboring countries.

Spokesperson Akhundzada Jawad stated that Afghanistan has reached self-sufficiency in rebar production, with exports steadily increasing. He revealed that the country currently operates over 40 steel melting factories, providing direct employment to 3,000–4,000 individuals.

According to the ministry, Afghanistan is actively engaging in trade with regional countries. Last year, 60,000 tons of rebar were exported to Pakistan, and a new agreement has been signed to export 150,000 tons to Turkmenistan this year.

This achievement highlights Afghanistan’s industrial progress and its potential to become a significant player in the regional steel market.
