The Ministry of Water and Energy stated that its Deputy Minister for Water, Mujib-ur-Rahman Omar, addressed the “Water Week” forum held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

In his address, Omar stressed the importance of equitable water distribution between Afghanistan and Central Asian countries, the adoption of modern technologies in water management, and the need for coordinated efforts to address the impacts of climate change.

He also underscored that the Afghan government is committed to protecting the rights of neighboring countries in water management, while stressing efforts to prevent the degradation of the Amu River’s banks.

On the sidelines of the forum, the deputy minister met with Uzbekistan’s Minister of Water, Shavkat Khamraev, discussing ways to expand bilateral cooperation in the water sector.

The Ministry stressed that Afghanistan’s participation in the forum is a significant step, paving the way for a new chapter of collaboration in both regional and international water discussions.
