Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, on Thursday launched construction on four major electricity projects and handed five others over for operation in Herat province. The combined value of the nine projects is 3.98 billion afghanis.

Mr. Baradar said the initiatives will provide 24-hour electricity to all industrial parks in Herat and extend power to commercial centres, rural communities and residential areas, contributing to a stable provincial power supply.

He urged countries to favour engagement over restrictive policies and to regard Afghanistan’s current security stability as an opportunity for cooperation.

Baradar added that engagement should not require compromising the Islamic Emirate’s values, saying the government pursues a balanced policy toward all countries with a primary focus on economic growth, security stability and improved governance.
