Al Jazeera reported that U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim that the Strait of Hormuz had been completely cleared of mines has come under question, with experts saying that clearing the main shipping routes does not mean that the entire strait has been cleared of mines.
According to the report, although the U.S. assessment regarding the clearance of the main and monitored shipping routes may be considered credible, there is still a possibility that some drifting mines remain outside these routes.
Al Jazeera, citing experts, said that Iran still has the capability to deploy additional mines, and that mines are not the only threat to vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the report, due to the lack of a clear ceasefire agreement, there remains a possibility that fighting could resume, leaving the movement of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz uncertain.
