Al-Qaeda’s military wing, Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen, has claimed responsibility for two separate attacks in Somalia’s Shabelle region.

According to a statement from the group, its fighters targeted government militias in the region, killing six and wounding 12 others.

The statement further added that Al-Shabaab forces also attacked Ethiopian troops in the same region, resulting in the deaths of five soldiers and injuring two others.

In recent weeks, Al-Shabaab has intensified its operations in Somalia, capturing several strategic areas.
