August 31st; A Day of Pride for the Nation and Shame for Former Officials

August 31st is not only the day the US and NATO occupation ended, but it can also be called the day the treacherous faces of the fallen republic fled Afghanistan, and the day the Afghan nation restored its pride, independence, and stability. On this historic day in Afghanistan, as a result of two decades of struggle in Afghanistan, the occupiers and their mercenary forces, officials, politicians, and leaders fled Afghanistan. However, the occupiers fled according to the Doha Agreement, and the former officials fled due to fear of the negative consequences of their past record and actions.

August 31st marked the end of a disaster and occupation, but it was not merely military in nature; it was the end of a dark and unfree era where national decisions were made from abroad and control over the nation’s destiny rested not with Afghans, but with Washington. This day symbolizes a nation’s ability to fight for the restoration of its independence until the last breath and establish an Afghan-centered independent government in Afghanistan.

On August 31st, all high-ranking officials of the fallen republic, including ministers, members of parliament, generals, and others, left Kabul before or alongside the occupiers. They had ruled Afghanistan for twenty years with the help of foreigners but always occupied their positions in the name of the nation’s vote and determined the country’s fate for the benefit of others. However, on historical and sensitive days, they betrayed the nation, responsibility, and conscience.

While the Afghan people were eagerly awaiting the welcome of a new situation and transformation, these same officials created a power vacuum, and their primary effort was to reach the planes and leave the country. It was essential that they had stayed at this sensitive time, made every effort for peace, and truly achieved what they were showing on social media in the name of the nation’s demands.

If these same fleeing officials and Afghan traitors had made genuine efforts yesterday to resolve Afghanistan’s issues and had not fled the country, today’s opposition would not be considered based on personal grudges. However, today, because of their repeated mistakes, they have lost power, and yesterday, they did not make realistic efforts to solve Afghanistan’s problems. Therefore, their opposition today is misplaced and based on personal interests, not national interests.

The leaders appointed at the head of hundreds of thousands of police, army, and intelligence personnel, including multi-star generals and the commander-in-chief who held power, repeatedly assured the people of defense. However, in the early days of Sunbula (and the end of August), when they realized their master (America) was truly tired of protecting and supplying them and was withdrawing from Afghanistan, they chose to flee instead of defend. These same officials are now asking the nation for support and want to be given power again.

The Afghan nation should learn from August 31st, which is also a day of awakening and important messaging for them. This day shows the Afghan nation that nations can defeat great powers in holy wars, but it also shows that if someone is given unlimited power, as was given to the officials of the fallen republic, they will ride on the nation’s shoulders and, in times of danger, will be the first to separate from the nation and flee the country.
