China’s special envoy to the United Nations, Fu Cong, has called on the UN Security Council to grant travel exemptions for senior officials of Afghanistan’s interim government.

He emphasized the need to amend the sanctions imposed on the interim government to facilitate increased engagement with Afghanistan’s current government.

In his address, Fu Cong underscored the importance of continuing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, stressing that such aid should not be used as a tool of pressure.

Referring to Afghanistan’s frozen assets, the Chinese envoy stated that these funds rightfully belong to the Afghan people and urged the United States to release them without any conditions.
